The Position:
We’re seeking an Environmental Professional to join our operations team!

This is an opportunity to support environmental protection through expert air quality management.

We are hiring ONE POSITION that may be filled as either an Environmental Engineer or Environmental Specialist at levels 1, 2, or 3, depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. This flexible approach allows us to find the best fit for our team while accommodating varying levels of professional credentials and experience.

The successful candidate will perform professional duties requiring a thorough understanding of air quality regulations, industrial processes, and environmental science/engineering principles. You’ll develop air quality permits, provide technical analysis, coordinate source testing, and serve as a technical resource for staff and external stakeholders while supporting our mission-driven organization’s environmental protection goals.

Responsibilities vary based on the level assigned and may include permit reviews, air dispersion modeling, emission inventory analysis, technical assistance to regulated sources, and representing the Agency in technical forums.

The Lane Regional Air Protection Agency is the local air quality authority for Lane County, Oregon. Our dedicated staff of 18 work to achieve and maintain clean air across the county. Supported by our member entities of Lane County, Eugene, Springfield, Cottage Grove, and Oakridge, and guided by our nine-member Board of Directors, we play an active role in community development and environmental protection. Despite an increase in population and traffic, the air quality for Lane County’s metro area has continued to improve since our inception.

This position may be filled at any of the following levels based on experience and qualifications:

Environmental Engineer Series:

  • Environmental Engineer 1: Entry-level engineering position with foundational knowledge, performs basic functions under direct supervision
  • Environmental Engineer 2: Applies comprehensive engineering knowledge to moderately complex permit writing and technical analysis with independent responsibilities
  • Environmental Engineer 3: Senior-level position handling the most complex industrial sources, providing technical leadership and mentoring

Environmental Specialist Series:

  • Environmental Specialist 1: Entry-level position with foundational environmental science knowledge, performs basic functions under direct supervision
  • Environmental Specialist 2: Applies comprehensive knowledge to moderately complex permit writing and technical analysis with independent responsibilities
  • Environmental Specialist 3: Advanced-level position with extensive knowledge, exercises independent judgment and provides technical leadership

Minimum qualifications:

For Environmental Engineer Positions:

  • Engineer 1: Bachelor’s degree in environmental, chemical, mechanical, civil engineering or related field; 0-2 years relevant engineering experience
  • Engineer 2: Bachelor’s degree in environmental, chemical, mechanical, civil engineering or related field; 2-4 years relevant engineering experience
  • Engineer 3: Bachelor’s degree in environmental, chemical, mechanical, civil engineering or related field; 4+ years relevant engineering experience

For Environmental Specialist Positions:

  • Specialist 1: Bachelor’s degree in physical science, environmental science, natural resources, or related field; 0-2 years relevant experience
  • Specialist 2: Bachelor’s degree in physical science, environmental science, natural resources, or related field; 2-4 years relevant experience
  • Specialist 3: Bachelor’s degree in physical science, environmental science, natural resources, or related field; 4+ years relevant experience

Licensing Requirements:

  • Valid Oregon driver’s license at time of appointment
  • Environmental Engineer 1: No certification required but should be eligible to take FE/EIT exam
  • Environmental Engineer 2: FE/EIT certification required or ability to obtain within one year
  • Environmental Engineer 3: Professional Engineer (PE) license registered in Oregon, or eligibility to sit for PE exam (must obtain Oregon PE registration within 24 months of hire)
  • Environmental Specialist positions: No engineering certifications required

Background

We’re seeking a Finance Specialist to join our finance team!

The Finance Specialist provides skilled paraprofessional support and is responsible for implementing, coordinating, and administering critical financial activities. You’ll prepare, maintain, and post detailed financial data according to generally accepted accounting procedures while supporting our mission-driven organization’s growth and development. This position performs a variety of paraprofessional duties requiring extensive specialized knowledge in the Agency’s payroll program and strict adherence to confidentiality protocols and ethical standards.   • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field
  • Four years of progressively responsible technical and financial experience, preferably in government accounting
